FIT TIPour
good friend Miami-based artist Steven Gagnon who is driving his
BORDER CRUISER, a mobile video installation in a former police
car, during the week of ArtBasel Miami Beach.
The video
sculpture is the fourth project in an ever expanding body of work and
marks the first that maintains the full functionality of the
automobile while the videos are playing. The
artwork's intent is to heighten public awareness of the dangers
and hardships that immigrants face who enter the country illegally
to find work.
The mobile sculpture was shown earlier this
year in Houston for Fotofest, the city's international photo and video
biennial. It was also well received at both the Democratic and
Republican National Conventions and garnered much press.
During ArtBasel
Miami Beach the BORDER CRUISER will patrol the streets
all around Miami Beach and Miami´s Wynwood District from sunset
to midnight.

'Art Swap Europe' Artist-run
initiatives and project spaces initiated by artists play an important
role alongside the established art market. A large number of such
artist initiatives and networks are already cooperating with one
another in various ways throughout Europe.
On 11 and 12
October 2008, Internationale Gesellschaft der Bildenden Künste
(IGBK) will host an open forum for presentations of concepts and
spaces, for discussions and face-to-face meetings. About 80 project and
exhibition spaces will be presented at the Akademie der Künste
(Berlin-Tiergarten, am Hanseatenweg) in an exhibition by means of
display boards, photographs, catalogues, leaflets and other information
material. We are also expecting the presence of many initiators for
conversations and a series of lectures.
The programme together with information is available at www.artswap-europe.eu
STICKERAWARD 2008
Friday, the 3rd october we are celebreting a day of the International Sticker
and create an Intervention Memorial: we will wrap the FIT Gallery in Berlin –
Freie Internationale Tankstelle (Schwedter Str. 262, Prenzlauer Berg)
in a spectacular mass performance with stickers. And YOU are the mass
performing! Our annual Sticker Awards Exhibition will consist this year
of two parts in order to allow us a little more dynamic graphical
discussion: one is curated and shows selected works and the winners of
this year – and the other part will take place on the surface of
the gallery and is open to all street artists during the exhibition.
Hence: Let´s stick together! Drop by, bring your
sticky artworks and glue with us – starting from the 29th
september the FIT will change into a free and temporary gallery! And
for the vernissage there will also be the awardshow with the
presentation of the winner of the Sticker Awards 2008! Besides: a
lecture and debate with Street-Art-Collector and curator Rik Reinking,
Videoart, Music, Party, Drinks – and above all stickers, stickers
and more stickers! Stick by and see you soon, your Sticker
